Isla de
Ometepe is jewel that measures 276
square kilometers and is located in Lake Nicaragua. It is the largest island in
a fresh water lake which can be found in Latin America.
It’s name
comes from the Náhuatl words ‘ome’ which means two and ‘tepelt’ which means
mountain or hill. Ometepe has been a refuge and therefore the land of many
tribes that settled here, leaving their own land behind and eventually developed the Island.
